Take Action

  • Volunteer at St. Stephen's Human Services or with other community programs.
     
  • Participate in A Day In The Life, a day-long experiential learning program offered through our Human Rights Program. For information, call 612-870-2296 or view the brochure.
     
  • Organize a drive for in-kind items such as socks, pillows, blankets, sheets, pots, pans, dishes, towels, etc for St. Stephen’s Human Services programs. For information, call 612-870-2276.
     
  • Find out who represents you at all levels of government – see left menu. City Council Member, Mayor, County Commissioner, State Representative, State Senator, Governor, U.S. Representative, U.S. Senator I, U.S. Senator II, and President.
    Call your representatives to express support for programs to end homelessness and express dissatisfaction with policies negatively affecting those experiencing homelessness. If unsure how to approach them, see www.mhponline.org/policy/toolbox  or www.mnhomelesscoalition.org/resources/toolkits/advocacy.
     
  • Organize and hold a fundraiser for St. Stephen’s Human Services. For information, call 612-870-2276.
     
  • Have someone in the field speak about homelessness to your church, service organization, school, university, business, organization, and/or neighborhood organization.  Call 612-870-2276.
     
  • Learn about the systemic causes (institutionalized racism, lack of affordable housing, lack of political will to end homelessness) of homelessness as well as the disproportionate number of minorities that experience homelessness.
     
  • Don't ignore panhandlers and persons signing. Acknowledge their humanity and presence.
