Handbook of the Streets
This resource for people experiencing homelessness is available free to people in need. (Providers or other non-homeless parties pay a small fee. Place order here.) People experiencing homelessness may get a free copy by coming to the offices of Alliance of the Streets (in the basement of St. Stephen's Community Center at 330 East 22nd Street, Minneapolis, MN.55404) or Street Outreach (1350 Nicollet Avenue #104 Minneapolis MN 55403).

Street Outreach
If you are homeless and not sure where to start to access help, download a mini-list of emergency services here. You may also contact our Street Outreach program at 612- 879-7624 or toll free (free from payphones) at 1-888-550-7624 or visit the Street Outreach office (1350 Nicollet Avenue #104 Minneapolis MN 55403) Mon-Fri between 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Emergency Shelter
Our shelter is for adult men only. Every Monday night a lottery is held jointly by St. Stephen's Shelter, Our Saviour's Shelter and Simpson Shelter. The lottery is held at Simpson Shelter: 2740 First Avenue S, Minneapolis, MN 54408. Enter the 28th Street door. You must arrive between 5:45 pm - 6:30 pm. Representatives from all shelters are present at the lottery to answer questions. Through this lottery beds are given out for a 28-day stay (four weeks). If you had a bed and lost your bed, you are ineligible to enter the lottery until two weeks have passed. If you have other questions call our shelter at 612-874-9292. For information about other shelter, call the Metro Shelter Hotline toll-free, 1-888-234-1329, 24 hours a day.

MFIP Program Eligibility
You must be on MFIP (Minnesota Family Investment Program) to receive assistances from our Employment & Family Services program. Click on the Fact Sheet to learn the basics. For more general MFIP questions, visit the
Minnesota Department of Human Services MFIP website.

Rapid Exit Housing for Families
The Rapid Exit program helps families move from Hennepin County homeless shelters to affordable housing. Access to the program is through a referral by Hennepin County Screener only. This takes place at Century Plaza in downtown Minneapolis or by calling 612-348-9875.

Rapid Exit Housing for Single Adults
This partnership with Hennepin County helps adults without dependent children move quickly from shelters into permanent housing. Access to the program is through a referral by Hennepin County Screener only. Please call 612-278-1181 for more information.

Ex-offenders Housing
This program is for ex-offenders in danger of homelessness upon release. We help connect individuals to housing as well as helping with education and employment opportunities. Program participants agree to pay rent & portion of utilities, and be working or in school. Please call our Housing Services at 612-879-7635.

Homelessness Prevention for Families
If you have minor children living with you and you are in danger of losing your housing we have a limited amount of funding to help with financial crises. While we wish we could help everyone, program requirements limit our ability to do so. Please read the guidelines and follow the directions here. If your situation does not fit these criteria, please contact your local county human services to locate a homelessness prevention specialist in your area.

Kateri Residence
Kateri Residence is for Native American women (over 18 years old) recovering from addiction. Priority is given to Native American women exiting treatment or corrections, but non-Native women may apply if willing to follow a program with this cultural emphasis. Please call Kateri at 612-871-0477 to set up a pre-intake interview.

Long-term Homelessness
COHR, GRH, and other programs for people who are experiencing homelessness long-term can be accessed by calling Program Director Kristin Brown.

Free Store
The Free Store offers free clothing and small household goods to anyone in need. No referral is necessary. The Free Store is at the rear of 2211 Clinton Avenue South Minneapolis, MN 55404. Look for a door to the right of the garage doors. Free Store hours are: Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Alliance of the Streets
This program can help you obtain a birth certificate for you, free voicemail, a free copy of the Handbook of the Streets, or Representative Payee services. Please call
612-870-2283 or come to the office (in the basement of St. Stephen's Community Center at 330 East 22nd Street, Minneapolis, MN.55404) during regular business hours (generally 9am-5pm M-F).

Human Rights Program, including zAmya Theater Project
We welcome people who are or have experienced homelessness to work on issues affecting the poor as well as creative theater and other art projects to educate the community. Please contact 612-879-7638.

People in Ramsey County (St. Paul) can get homelessness information by calling 651-225-9354 or 651-225-9355.

Metro-wide
United Way 2-1-1 is an information and referral service, serving a large portion of Minnesota, including the seven-county metropolitan area, and some of Western Wisconsin. From 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, United Way 2-1-1 may also have staff available to speak Hmong, Russian, Somali, and Spanish. Dial 2-1-1 or 651-291-0211 or visit the United Way 2-1-1 website.

Metro Shelter Hotline operates through a toll-free number, 1-888-234-1329, to link homeless callers to shelter information, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
